Emory & Henry Men's Basketball Downs Roanoke, 69-60, Monday In ODAC Action

SALEM, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (8-7, 2-5 ODAC) picked up a 69-60 win over Roanoke College (4-11, 0-6 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Monday evening at the C. Homer Bast Center.

The two teams battled back and forth for the first five and a half minutes of the game before Emory & Henry went on a 10-0 run to take a 19-10 lead with 12:36 remaining in the first half. Roanoke responded with a 13-2 spurt of their own covering 3:56 to go up by a 23-21 score.

The Wasps regained the lead 17 seconds later on a three-pointer by freshman guard Damian Edwards (Boone, N.C.). E&H would not relinquish the advantage for the remainder of the contest.

After taking a 39-30 lead into the half, Emory & Henry quickly pushed the margin to 14 with five-straight points to start the second half. The Maroons were able to trim the deficit to four (46-42 with 13:36 remaining) but would get no closer, as the Wasps led by as much as 18 late in the contest.

Roanoke would not go quietly into the night, scoring the final eight points of the contest to make the final score 69-60.

Edwards led all scorers with 18 points, connecting on four-of-eight three-point attempts, and added three rebounds. E&H sophomore forward Tyler Mullins (Hazard, Ky.) tallied 16 points and five rebounds while junior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) had 15 points and four boards on the night. The Wasps shot 47.3 percent (26-for-55) for the game from the field and connected on seven-of-20 three-point attempts.

The Maroons were paced by Kwasi Amponsah with 15 points while Daniel Eacho and Stefan Vulevic tallied 14 and 10 points, respectively. Roanoke was 22-for-57 (38.6 percent) from the floor and hit 13-of-17 (76.5 percent) of its attempts from the charity stripe.

Emory & Henry will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Greensboro, N.C., to take on Guilford College in an ODAC contest. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
