Lynchburg Men’s Basketball Escapes With 79-68 Win Over Emory & Henry Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Lynchburg College Men's Basketball Team (11-7, 6-4 ODAC) scored 25 points off of turnovers en route to a  79-68 victory over Emory & Henry College (8-9, 2-7 ODAC) Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

The two teams battled back and forth for the entirety of the first half. Though Lynchburg held the lead for the majority of the opening period, the Hornets could not extend the gap past seven points in the opening 20 minutes, taking a 38-32 advantage into the locker room.

After the break, Lynchburg was able to take control of the game. Up 48-41 with 14:29 to go, the Hornets went on a 12-3 run to push the margin to 16 points (60-44). The Wasps did not give up, going on a 17-4 run that covered 4:25 in the middle of the second half to close the gap to three (64-61). Eight straight points by Lynchburg put the contest out of reach as it went on to win by a 79-68 score.

Lynchburg placed three scorers in double figures, led by Harry West, Jr. with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Nate Campbell had 14 points while Michael Wims registered 11 points and seven boards. The Hornets hit 10 three-pointers and swiped 12 steals in the contest.

Emory & Henry was led by junior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) with a game-high 25 points, going 11-for-12 from the free throw line. Junior forward Armando Murrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 10 points and five rebounds.  E&H shot 44.9 percent (22-for-49) from the field, but suffered from 21 turnovers, allowing 25 Lynchburg points.

E&H will return to the hardwood on Wednesday when it travels to Lexington, Virginia to take on Washington and Lee University. Tipoff between the Wasps and Generals is set for 7:00 p.m.
