Washington and Lee Men’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 67-46, Wednesday

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee University Men's Basketball Team (11-7, 4-5 ODAC) picked up a 67-46 victory over visiting Emory & Henry College (8-10, 2-8 ODAC) Wednesday evening at the Warner Center in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

The two teams battled back and forth over the first 7:45 to a 15-15 tie. The Generals held the lead for the next portion of the first half before the Wasps tied the contest again at 27. E&H reeled off six straight points to lead 33-27, but W&L closed the gap, for a 35-34 Emory & Henry advantage at the break.

Washington and Lee began the second half with a 16-4 run to take a 50-37 lead. The Generals put together a 15-2 run late in the second half to put the contest out of reach, leading 67-45 with less than a minute remaining and cruising to the 67-46 victory.

W&L placed three players in double figures, led by Larry Whitaker with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Clay McLean had 15 points in the contest to lead all players while J.D. Ely registered 13 points, nine boards, five assists and three blocks. Drew Kimberly tallied nine points and 10 rebounds on the night.

As a team, the Generals shot 43.5 percent (27-for-62) from the floor and out-rebounded the Wasps by a 47-33 margin. W&L took advantage of its trips to the charity stripe, converting eight of nine free throws in the game.

Emory & Henry was led by sophomore forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Junior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) had nine points and five rebounds in the game as well.

E&H will remain on the road on Saturday when it travels to Bridgewater College. The ODAC matchup between the Wasps and the Eagles is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
