Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Pushes Past Bridgewater, 57-48, Saturday Afternoon On The Road

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (9-10, 3-8 ODAC) snapped a three-game skid on Saturday afternoon, defeating Bridgewater College (5-14, 2-8 ODAC), 57-48, at Nininger Hall in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

After Emory & Henry got out to a 6-0 lead in the first 44 seconds of the game, the Wasps and Eagles slowed the tempo and battled to a 21-19 halftime margin in favor of Bridgewater.

In the second half, the two teams traded baskets to a 29-29 tie at the 14:16 mark. E&H went on a 7-1 run over the next 2:26 to take a 36-30 lead that they would never give up. Bridgewater cut the margin to one point (40-39) with 7:45 remaining, but the Wasps pushed their advantage back to five points and held on for the nine-point win.

Junior forward Armando Murrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers with 13 points, going four-for five from the floor and five-for-seven at the free throw line. Murrell also had nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in the contest. Freshman guards Damian Edwards (Boone, N.C.) and Tyler Driver (Alexandria, Va.) pitched in 12 and 11 points, respectively with driver pulling down seven boards.

Emory & Henry shot just 37.0 percent (17-for-46) for the game but held Bridgewater to 17-for-53 (32.1 percent) shooting and claimed a 40-36 rebounding advantage. The Wasps also took advantage of a 20-5 margin on points off turnovers.

Bridgewater was led by Cody Griffith with 12 points while Kenneth Waugh finished the game with 11 points, all coming in the first half. Tavis Stapleton registered 10 points and five rebounds in the contest as well for the Eagles.

E&H will step out of conference play on Wednesday when it visits Greensboro College for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Pride.
