Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Takes Care Of Bridgewater, 72-54, Wednesday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (12-12, 6-9 ODAC) extended its winning streak to three games Wednesday evening, defeating Bridgewater College (7-17, 4-11 ODAC) by a 72-54 score in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. With the victory, the Wasps have all but solidified a home game in the first round of the 2012 ODAC Tournament.

Emory & Henry got out to a 9-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and led by as much as 11 points (17-6) midway through the first half. The Eagles were able to cut the margin to four with a 7-0 run, but the Wasps extended the advantage back to double digits for a 30-20 halftime score.

E&H came out of the locker room on a 10-4 run to extend the gap to 16. Junior forward Armando Murrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 14 of his game-high 20 points after the break as the Wasps held a 21-point lead down the stretch.

Murrell added a game-high 12 rebounds to his career-best 20 points to complete the double-double while freshman guard Damian Edwards (Boone, N.C.) had 12 points, 10 rebounds six assists and three steals on the night. Junior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) had 11 points and freshman guard Tyler Driver (Alexandria, Va.) posted nine-point performance.

As a team, E&H shot 43.3 percent (26-for-60) from the field and held a 48-34 advantage on the glass. The Wasps posted 16 assists compared to just two for Bridgewater.

Bridgewater was paced by Matthew Hunter with 15 points while Ronnie Thomas and Tavis Stapleton each pitched in 13 points and six rebounds in the contest.

Emory & Henry will travel to Virginia Beach to take on Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The contest is the ODAC Regular Season finale for the Wasps.
