No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 84-60, Saturday

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan College Men's Basketball Team (21-3, 12-2 ODAC) remained atop the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings with a 84-60 win over Emory & Henry College (12-13, 6-10 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at The Batten Center. With the win, the Marlins clinched the number one seed for the upcoming ODAC Tournament.

Virginia Wesleyan led the entire game and got out to a 15-6 lead at the 13:31 mark. The Marlins would go up by 13 in the opening period before the Wasps cut the lead to 39-29 at the half.

After the break, Virginia Wesleyan started with a 14-5 run for a 53-34 lead. The Marlins took full control of the contest and led by as much as 25 down the stretch, en route to the 84-60 victory.

D.J. Woodmore registered a game-high 19 points for VWC while Chris Astorga had 17 points in the game. As a team, the Marlins shot 52.2 percent (35-for-67) for the game and scored 28 points in the paint.

Emory & Henry was led by junior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) with 17 points while junior forward Armando Murrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wasps shot just 36.1 percent (22-for-61) for the game but held a 41-36 rebounding advantage.

Emory & Henry will await the pairings for the 2012 ODAC Tournament, which will be decided on Sunday afternoon. The Wasps are projected to have earned the eighth or ninth seed for the tournament. The first round game will take place on Tuesday evening.
