Covenant Men’s Basketball Gets Past Emory & Henry, 66-60, Friday Evening

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Covenant College Men's Basketball Team (1-1) picked up a 66-60 win over Emory & Henry College (0-1) Friday night at the Barnes P.E. Center.

The two squads battled back and forth for the first 9:05 of the contest to a 19-19 tie. Covenant then went on 9-3 run to for a 28-22 lead at the 8:43 mark of the first half. The Scots would lead by as much as 10 (41-31) before the break, but the Wasps finished the half with a 4-0 run.

Emory & Henry kept things going to start the second half, taking a 48-45 lead at the 12:23 mark. Covenant went on a 7-0 run to reclaim the lead, 52-48. The contest would remain tight with the final tie coming at the 3:20 mark (58-58). The Scots finished the contest with an 8-2 run and made four-straight free throws down the stretch.

The Scots saw four players reach double figures in scoring led by Callum Sears with 13 points. Colton McGriff had 12 points and eight rebounds while T.J. Cox and Chris Boyd registered 10 points each. As a team, Covenant shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) for the contest and had 13 steals.

Senior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) led all scorers with 23 points off the bench for Emory & Henry and added four rebounds and two steals. Senior forward Armando Murrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 12 points and eight rebounds in the game. Freshman guard Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.) added nine points and three rebounds.

Emory & Henry will next take the court on Tuesday when it hosts Ferrum College at Bob Johnson Court. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
