No. 25 Hampden-Sydney Men’s Basketball Takes Down Emory & Henry, 98-64, Saturday Afternoon

HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. – The No. 25 Hampden-Sydney Men's Basketball Team (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference action with a 98-64 victory over visiting Emory & Henry College (0-3, 0-1 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at Fleet Gymnasium.

The Wasps and Tigers battled back and forth for the first 10 minutes of the contest to a 21-19 score. HSC went on a 16-5 run that covered four and a half minutes to take a 13-point lead (37-24) and pushed its advantage to 30 (59-29) at the half.

After the break, Hampden-Sydney continued to roll, as the nationally-ranked Tigers would hold a 30-plus point margin for nearly the entire period. Emory & Henry was able to put together a 7-0 run mid-way through the frame.

HSC was led by Harrison George with 20 points while Khobi Williamson and Greg Lewis chipped in 14 and 13 points apiece. Mike Murray dished out nine assists while Cam Anderson and Sam Dale pulled down four rebounds each. The Tigers had 12 different players reach double figures in minutes in the contest.

Emory & Henry was paced by freshman guard Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.), whose game-high 22 points was also a career-high. Turner also had four rebounds and three steals in the game.

Junior guard Stephen Brown (Charleston, S.C.) and junior forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) registered 11 points apiece while Smith led all players with six rebounds.

Hampden-Sydney shot 62.9 percent (39-for-62) for the contest while Emory & Henry managed a 42.3 (22-of-52) shooting percentage of its own. The Tigers held a slim edge on the battle of the boards, 33-31, but forced 31 turnovers in the contest.

The Wasps will travel to Sewanee, Tenn., on Tuesday evening to take on The University of the South. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
