Guilford Men’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 82-68, Wednesday In ODAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Guilford College Men's Basketball Team (12-2, 4-1 ODAC) picked up a 82-68 win over Emory & Henry College (2-9, 0-4 ODAC) Wednesday evening at Bob Johnson Court in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The two squads battled to a 7-all tie at the 14:37 mark of the first half. E&H then went on a 10-1 run thanks in part to a pair of three pointers by junior guard Stephen Brown (Charleston, S.C.) for a 17-9 lead with 10:49 on the clock.

The Quakers then went on a 23-1 run over the next 7:56 for a 31-18 lead on the back of Josh Pittman who scored 11 points, as he went three-for-four from beyond the arc during the stretch. The Wasps were able to close the half on a 5-2 run, for a 33-23 halftime margin.

After the break, both teams traded baskets for the first 3:16 as Emory & Henry cut the margin to 39-31. Guilford then went on a 19-4 scoring stretch for its largest lead of the game, 58-35, with 10:51 remaining. The Wasps would cut the lead to 13 on three separate occasions down the stretch but got no closer as the Quakers went on to win, 82-68.

Guilford shot 49.1 percent (28-for-57) from the floor and hit 10 three-pointers in the game. Pittman led all scorers with 32 points, hitting seven treys, and added five rebounds. Matt McCarthy and Zeb Richardson added 14 and 13 points, respectively for the Quakers as Richardson pulled down eight boards. Jake Hopkins led the squad with 10 rebounds on the night.

Emory & Henry was paced by junior forward Tyler Mullins' (Hazard, Ky.) career night as he notched 21 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes of play. Freshman guard Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.) had 11 points and four rebounds while junior forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) and sophomore guard Tyler Driver (Alexandria, Va.) registered nine points each.

The Wasps shot just 23-for-62 (37.1 percent) for the game, with a 45% (9-of-20) showing from long range.

E&H will travel to Winchester, Va. on Saturday afternoon to take on Shenandoah University in ODAC play. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
