Randolph-Macon Men’s Basketball Routs Emory & Henry, 79-58, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Randolph-Macon College Men's Basketball Team (9-8, 4-4 ODAC) started the game on a 19-2 run and never looked back as it defeated Emory & Henry College (3-12, 1-7 ODAC), 79-58, Saturday afternoon at Bob Johnson Court in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

The Yellow Jackets continued to hold a solid lead for the rest of the half, going up by as much as 20 (36-16 with 2:07 remaining). Emory & Henry got back-to-back three-pointers by sophomore guard Tyler Driver (Alexandria, Va.) and freshman guard Kevin Anzenberger (Concord, N.C.) to trim the margin to 14, but R-MC responded to take a 40-24 advantage into the break.

After the intermission, Randolph-Macon started off on a 6-2 run to push its lead back to 20 (46-26) at the 18:28 mark. The Wasps would go on a 9-2 scoring spurt midway through the frame to make the score 59-45, but got no closer the rest of the way as the Yellow Jackets led by as much as 25 down the stretch.

Randolph-Macon was led by Akeem Holmes, who tallied a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Lamar Giggetts had 14 points and eight rebounds while Connor Sullivan added nine points, three assists and two steals on the day.

As a team, the Yellow Jackets shot 44.8 percent (30-for-67) for the game, and held a 51-36 rebounding advantage. R-MC also won the battle for points in the paint, 46-28.

E&H senior forward Armando Murrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had team highs with 18 points and seven rebounds as he went seven-for-13 from the floor in the game. Freshman guard Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.) had 10 points, three rebounds and three assists while Driver and Anzenberger each posted eight points in the contest.

The Wasps shot just 19-for-59 (32.2 %) for the game and suffered at the free throw line, making only 57.1 percent (16-of-28) of their attempts.

Emory & Henry will travel to Salem, Virginia on Wednesday to take on Roanoke College. Tipoff between the Wasps and Maroons is set for 7:00 p.m.
