VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College Men's Basketball Team (14-6, 10-2 ODAC) forced 22 turnovers Saturday afternoon as it defeated Emory & Henry College (4-15, 2-10 ODAC), 86-63, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action at The Batten Center.

Emory & Henry got out to a 6-2 lead at the 18:30 mark of the first half, but Virginia Wesleyan scored seven-straight points for a 9-6 advantage. The Marlins would push their lead to nine (18-9), but the Wasps hit back-to-back three-point baskets to trim the margin to three with 11:24 on the clock. VWC closed the half on a 6-2 run for a 34-26 halftime lead.

Coming out of the break, the two squads traded baskets with E&H cutting the lead to four (38-34) with 17:03 to go. The Marlins went on a 16-4 run to break the game open (54-38), with Chris Astorga accounting for 10 points. Emory & Henry would get no closer than 12 points the rest of the way as Virginia Wesleyan went on to claim the 86-63 victory.

Astorga led all players with 24 points and posted five rebounds and four steals for the Marlins. D.J. Woodmore had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Tre' Ford notched 10 points, six steals five rebounds and three assists.

As a team, VWC shot 44.0 percent (33-for-75) for the game and hit 15-of-19 (78.9%) of their free throw attempts. The Marlins outrebounded the Wasps, 46-34, and held a 31-12 advantage on points off turnovers.

Emory & Henry was paced by junior forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists while senior center Armando Murrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 11 points and three boards. Freshman guard Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.) tallied eight points and sophomore guard Tyler Driver (Alexandria, Va.) had seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Emory & Henry was 47.2 percent (25-for-53) from the field but the Wasps hit only 9-of-22 (40.9%) of their free throws and fell victim to 22 turnovers.

E&H will return home on Monday to host Covenant College at 7:00 p.m. The Scots won the first meeting of the year, 66-60, on November 16.
