Guilford Men’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 81-59, Wednesday Evening

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College Men's Basketball Team (11-3, 5-0 ODAC) remained undefeated in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening as it defeated visiting Emory & Henry College (2-12, 0-5 ODAC) by an 81-59 score at Ragan-Brown Field House.

The Quakers got out to a 10-2 lead at the 16:05 mark of the first half. E&H cut the deficit to 14-8 on back-to-back three-pointers by freshman guard Drew Henry (Sterling, Va.) but GC slowly increased its advantage to 21-point (43-22) halftime margin.

Guilford used a 13-2 run coming out of the break to go up 56-24 with 16:24 to go in the game. The Wasps were able to get within 26 points, but the Quakers bounced back for a 35-point lead (75-40) with under five minutes to play. Emory & Henry closed the game on a 19-6 run for the final 81-59 score.

Matt McCarthy had 20 points and five rebounds to lead all players for the Quakers while Trever Hyatt notched 16 points on four three-pointers off the bench. Jake Hopkins had 11 points and six boards while Alston Furr tallied 10 points and four assists. Guilford shot 43.8 percent (32-for-73) for the game and hit 11 three's. GC also held a 32-20 advantage on points in the paint.

Emory & Henry was paced by Henry and and senior guard Stephen Brown (Charleston, S.C.) with 11 points each as Henry added seven rebounds. Senior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) recorded eight points while senior forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) had seven points and five rebounds in the contest. The Wasps shot just 22-for-69 (31.9%) from the field, hitting just seven-of-30 three-point attempts.

E&H will return home on Saturday to face Eastern Mennonite University. Tipoff for the ODAC contest is set for 2:00 p.m.
