Roanoke Men’s Basketball Upends Emory & Henry, 81-61, Wednesday Evening

SALEM, Va. – The Roanoke College Men's Basketball Team (7-8, 1-6 ODAC) picked up its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season Wednesday evening, defeating visiting Emory & Henry College (2-14, 0-7 ODAC) by an 81-61 score at the C. Homer Bast Center.

The Maroons got out to an 8-1 lead and pushed the advantage to 20-9 with 9:19 to go before the break. After E&H got the deficit back to single digits, Roanoke went on a 14-4 run which covered 4:00 for a 34-15 lead. RC kept the pressure on and scored the final six points of the half for a 42-20 margin at the intermission.

The two squads traded baskets early in the second half, but a 20-6 run by Roanoke gave the Maroons their largest advantage of the game, 68-31, with 9:37 to go. Emory & Henry did not give up, however, and put up a 13-2 run to bring the margin back to under 30 for the remainder of the contest. The Wasps continued to fight hard late and scored 11 of the last 13 points of the game to make the final margin 81-61.

Daniel Eacho led the Maroons with 22 points, four rebounds and three assists as he went seven-for-11 from the floor and connected on all eight of his free throw attempts. Andrew Daniels and Marcus Scott added 17 and 12 points, respectively, for Roanoke while Julian Ramirez had nine points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists on the night. As a team, RC shot 52.5 percent (32-of-61) for the game and held a 40-20 advantage on points in the paint.

E&H was paced by freshman guard Drew Henry (Sterling, Va.) with 12 points on five-for-nine shooting and three rebounds. Senior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) had nine points and four boards while sophomore guard Kevin Anzenberger (Concord, N.C.) added eight points and three rebounds. Senior guard Onell Gibson (Sicklerville, N.J.) tallied seven points as well for the Wasps. Emory & Henry shot just 37.5 percent (21-for-56) for the game but won the battle of the boards 40-37.

Emory & Henry will return home on Saturday afternoon to face off against Shenandoah University in an ODAC contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
