Lynchburg Men’s Basketball Escapes Emory & Henry, 77-73, Wednesday In ODAC Action

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg College Men's Basketball Team (14-4, 7-2 ODAC) needed all 40 minutes of the game to hold off visiting Emory & Henry College (2-16, 0-9 ODAC), 77-73, Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference Action at Turner Gym.

The two teams battled back and forth early in the contest before the Hornets went on an 8-1 run to go up 20-12 with 10:40 on the clock. Emory & Henry then went on a 14-4 run to take a 26-24 lead thanks in part to a quartet of three-pointers. LC would push back ahead briefly, but E&H took a 38-35 advantage into the break.

After the intermission, the Wasps went up 41-35 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Kevin Anzenberger (Concord, N.C.) but the Hornets scored the next eight points to take a 43-41 lead with 17:33 to go. The run extended to 29-10 with Lynchburg leading by as much as 13 (64-51) before Emory & Henry got back into the game. The Wasps rallied with a 22-10 run and got within one with 25 seconds left, but could not convert a shot with three seconds left to tie the game, falling 77-73.

Manny Hernandez led all players with 21 points for Lynchburg as he added four assists while Lyndon White tallied 13 points and four assists. Austen Arnold had nine points and six rebounds off the bench while Alex Graves and Daniel Rowe registered eight points apiece.

Emory & Henry was paced senior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.), who notched 17 points and hit five-of-eight three-point attempts. Senior guard Brett Pearman (Chesapeake, Va.) had 12 points, five assists and three steals while senior forward Tyler Mullins (Hazard, Ky.) and Anzenberger  put up 11 points each. It was Mullins' first action since Dec. 30 as he added three rebounds and three assists.

E&H will return home on Saturday to face Hampden-Sydney College. The contest is set to tip-off at 2:00 p.m., and will be the first of a doubleheader at Bob Johnson Court.
