Randolph Men’s Basketball Rallies To Defeat Emory & Henry, 71-62, In ODAC Action

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College Men's Basketball Team (12-8, 6-5 ODAC) rallied from a 12-point first-half deficit en route to defeating visiting Emory & Henry College (2-18, 0-11 ODAC) by a 71-62 score Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

Randolph's Mike Ehilegbu posted 28 points spread evenly over both halves to lead the WildCats to the victory and eclipse the 1,000-point plateau for his career.

Emory & Henry got out to an 11-2 lead at the 14:22 mark of the first half thanks to sharp three-point shooting. Though the WildCats trimmed the margin to two (16-14), the Wasps went up by as much as 12 (36-24) before the break as their dead-eye shooting from beyond the arc continued.

Randolph came out of the intermission with an 11-2 run to take a 39-38 lead. Three straight points by E&H gave them a slim 41-39 advantage but Ehilegbu answered with seven of the WildCats' next 10 points to take a lead they would not give up. Though RC extended its lead to double digits in the final five minutes of play, Emory & Henry remained within striking distance, but could not get any closer than eight points down the stretch.

In addition to his 28 points on nine-for-13 shooting from the field, Ehilegbu added four rebounds and two assists to lead the WildCats. Seth Wimbish hit a trio of three's off the bench while Evan Horn added eight points of his own. Corey Brown and Dylan Shiflett each notched seven points and pulled down eight boards in the contest.

Emory & Henry was led by senior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) as he put up 13 points, four rebounds and four assists in the game. Senior forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) had 13 points and five boards while freshman guard Ryan Gravely (Austinville, Va.) added nine points off the bench. Senior forward Tyler Mullins (Hazard, Ky.) chipped in five points, six rebounds and two assists in his return to the starting lineup.

As a team, the Wasps shot 40.7 percent (24-for-59) for the game and hit 11-of-23 (47.8%) of their tries from beyond the arc. E&H only made it to the free throw line four times during the game (3-for-4) compared to a 15-of-23 showing by Randolph.

Emory & Henry will return home for a 4:30 p.m. contest with Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon. The game will be the second of a doubleheader with the Wasps' women's team and will also serve as Senior Day.
