Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Earns National Honors For Academic Achievement

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team has earned a pair of academic honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches, NABC officials announced this week.

The Wasps were one of more than 175 programs from all levels of college basketball including 60 NCAA Division III teams to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award. Emory & Henry was also just one of only two schools in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to accomplish the goal of having a full team grade-point average of 3.0 for the 2014-15 academic year.

"It is great to see our players honored for their hard work in the classroom," said Head Coach David Willson. "One of our team goals each year is to achieve a 3.0 team GPA. I am proud of the effort our players put forth last year to achieve this goal which is consistent with our broader goal of striving for excellence on and off the court."

Also honored by the NABC was rising senior guard Kevin Anzenberger (Concord, N.C.), who was named to the 2014-15 Honors Court. Qualifications for the honors court require the player to be a varsity letterwinner for the institution, academically a junior or senior, and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. Nationally, 1,000 student-athletes from over 350 colleges and universities were recognized including 15 from ODAC schools.

The awards from the NABC come on the heels of the ODAC All-Academic Team which honored Anzenberger, rising juniors Ryan Gravley (Austinville, Va.) and Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.) and rising sophomores Josh Hess (Abingdon, Va.), Zach Lawson (Roanoke, Va.) and Johnny McLean (Charlotte, N.C.). The ODAC All-Academic Team is comprised of players who earned a 3.25 GPA or above, regardless of class year.
