Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Earns National Honors For Academic Achievement

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team has earned academic honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the second year in a row, NABC officials announced this week.

The Wasps were one of 102 programs from all levels of college basketball including 60 NCAA Division III teams to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award, which recognizes a team grade-point average of 3.0 during the 2015-16 academic year. Emory & Henry was the only school from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to receive the honor.

"I am proud of our team for another great year in the classroom," said Head Coach David Willson. "The recognition from the NABC is well-deserved and is evidence of our players' commitment to doing things right on and off the court."

Also honored by the NABC were recent graduate Kevin Anzenberger (Concord, N.C.), rising senior guard Ryan Gravley (Austinville, Va.) and rising junior forward Zach Lawson (Roanoke, Va.) who was named to the 2015-16 Honors Court. Qualifications for the honors court require the player to be a varsity letterwinner for the institution, academically a junior or senior, and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. Nationally, 656 student-athletes from 227 colleges and universities were recognized. E&H represented three of the four honorees from ODAC schools.

The awards from the NABC come on the heels of the ODAC All-Academic Team which honored Anzenberger, Gravley and rising senior Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.), rising junior Johnny McLean (Charlotte, N.C.) and rising sophomores Clif Conley (Galax, Va.) and Andrew Davis (Wake Forest, N.C.). The ODAC All-Academic Team is comprised of players who earned a 3.25 GPA or above, regardless of class year.
