#4 Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Advances To ODAC Tournament Semifinals, 82-69, Over #12 Randolph Friday

SALEM, Va. – The #4 Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (20-6) picked up an 82-69 win over #12 Randolph College (7-20) Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.

With the victory, the Wasps make it back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since a six-year span between 1987-88 and 1992-93 and advance to the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament for the third year in a row, its longest run since a 10-year stretch between 1986 and 1995.

How It Happened
- The two squads jostled for control early on before Emory & Henry went on an 18-7 run for a 32-22 advantage at the 4:59 mark of the opening half.
- Up by eight with under 2:30 to play before the intermission, the Wasps scored 11 unanswered points to go into the locker room, leading 46-27.
- Returning to action in the second, E&H built a lead which it stretched to as large as 24 (60-36) with 13:22 on the clock.
- The WildCats used a 12-5 run to close the margin down to 12 with 2:00 to go, but the outcome was already clear as the Wasps took the 82-69 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior forward Alic Wynn (Asheville, N.C.) put up a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds, going 9-for-14 from the field while senior forward Chase Branscomb (Bristol, Tenn.) had 13 points and 10 boards.
- Senior guard John Shelor (Giles, Va.) scored 15 points with a trio of three pointers while sophomore guard Daniel Spencer (Concord, N.C.) added 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Randolph Individual Leaders
- Sammy Hooper led all players with 23 points, two rebounds and three assists while Ryan Fields tacked on 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
- Brian Smith contributed 11 points and three assists for the WildCats.

 A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 52.6 percent (31-of-59) of its field goal attempts including six three-pointers. The Wasps went 14-for-20 (70%) at the free throw line.
- Randolph shot 27-for-65 (41.5%) from the field with seven makes from downtown. The WildCats only reached the free throw line 14 times, making eight of their attempts (57.1%).
- Emory & Henry held a 46-29 rebounding advantage and outscored Randolph by a 40-24 margin on points in the paint.
- The WildCats made the most off 15 Wasp turnovers, scoring 11 points while E&H could only manage eight points off 10 Randolph errors.

- Emory & Henry will face off against #9 Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m., in the tournament semifinals.
