Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Takes 73-71 Thriller Over Washington and Lee Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (13-6, 6-4 ODAC) overcame a 13-point second-half deficit on its way to a 73-71 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Washington and Lee University (13-6, 6-4 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at home.

How It Happened
- The two squads went back and forth for the opening 20 minutes of the game with neither side leading by more than five points. Washington and Lee would take a 34-31 advantage into the intermission.
- The Generals opened the second half with 13 of the first 17 points for a 47-35 lead. Down by 13 (50-37), E&H went on a 19-7 run to retake the lead at the 10:34 mark for the first time since there were 34 second left in the first half.
- The Wasps and Generals went shot for shot for the final 10 minutes with W&L taking a 71-67 lead with 2:01 left. Emory & Henry scored the final six points of the contest, four of which came at the free throw line to pull out the 73-71 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard Tharon Suggs (Raleigh, N.C.) posted a game-high 26 points, seven rebounds and three assists, going 8-for-8 from the line.
- Junior guard Daniel Spencer (Concord, N.C.) had 22 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists while senior forward Alic Wynn (Asheville, N.C.) posted six points and 16 rebounds.

Washington and Lee Individual Leaders
- William Bruggemann led the Generals with 24 points and eight rebounds while Roy McMillan had 19 points and eight boards.
- Curtis Mitchell and Devin Kearns had 10 points each while Mitchell added six rebounds and Kearns put up five boards and four assists.

 A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit just 27-of-74 (36.5%) of its field goal attempts with five three-pointers. The Wasps made 63.6 percent (14-of-22) of their free throws.
- Washington and Lee shot 35.5 percent (22-of-62) from the floor, making 10 triples (37%) for the game. The Generals went 17-for-23 (73.9%) from the charity stripe.
- E&H held a 47-46 rebounding advantage including a 14-9 margin on the offensive glass. The Wasps led 14-10 on second-chance points and outscored the Generals, 38-16, on points in the paint.
- E&H also led 17-9 on points off turnovers, taking advantage of 15 W&L miscues while making just six errors in the game.
