EMORY, Va. - As preparation is underway for the 2020-21 season currently scheduled to begin in January, Emory & Henry College Head Men's Basketball Coach Ben Thompson shared some advice for aspiring coaches on the "Beyond the Box Score Podcast" planned for release on Friday, September 18.
Thompson is entering his second season at Emory & Henry. In his first season, through a year of steep adversity, Thompson guided the Wasps to a berth in the ODAC Tournament and won the most league games of any first-year head coach in program history. The team finished the season on a three-game home winning streak, defeating No. 13 Virginia Wesleyan University in double overtime, in the process.
"I've been so fortunate to learn from some really great coaches in my life," said Thompson. "It was an honor to join Coach Kaplan on his podcast to discuss Emory & Henry, basketball, and also family. Coaching college basketball is such an enjoyable career and a passion of mine, so the opportunity to share any insights with aspiring coaches is very humbling, but also very exciting for me. I hope that Wasp Nation will also tune in to learn a little bit more about our program as well!"
The Beyond the Box Score Podcast is a podcast for aspiring and current basketball coaches looking to improve their craft. The podcast's philosophy is that coaching is so much more than X's & O's, and it aspires to help share the journeys of coaches from all levels. Host David Kaplan is an assistant coach at Davidson County Community College in North Carolina, and asks what other coaches want to hear about at all levels of the profession.
