Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Announces 2021-22 Schedule

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team and Head Coach Ben Thompson are excited to release the schedule for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

Highlighting the schedule is a pair of NCAA Division I exhibition contests against Radford University and Coastal Carolina University as well as a trip to New York City to face D'Youville College at the Barclays Center, home of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets.

Fans will get their annual first look at the Wasps at the eighth Buzzmania celebration on Friday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. The event, co-hosted by the E&H Men's & Women's Basketball Teams, will take place at the John Rutledge King Center.

"This is an exciting time to be part of our men's basketball program," commented Thompson. "As we embark on this journey into NCAA Division II, we wanted to give our guys incredible experiences against high-level competition.  We now have the ability, through Food City, to host our own Tip-Off Classic with regional teams to kick start our season."

Emory & Henry gets the season started with an exhibition at Radford on Tuesday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m. The Wasps other exhibition at Coastal Carolina will take place on Sunday, January 2 at 7:00 p.m. Both games will be available to watch on the ESPN family of networks.

E&H will play the first nine games of the regular season in the friendly confines of the John Rutledge King Center beginning with the Food City Tip-Off Classic. The Wasps host Alice Lloyd College on Friday, November 12 (5:30 p.m.) and Warren Wilson College on Sunday, November 14 (2:00 p.m.). The Eagles and Owls will face one another on Saturday, November 13.

Back-to-back games against Pensacola Christian College 6:00 p.m., on Friday, November 19 and Saturday, November 20 1:00 p.m., are next with Emory & Henry hosting University of Pikeville on Tuesday, November 23 at 6:00 p.m.

Returning from Thanksgiving Break, the Wasps play Mars Hill University on Monday, November 29 (6:00 p.m.), Brevard College on Friday, December 3 (5:00 p.m.), Southern Virginia University on Wednesday, December 8 (4:00 p.m.) and the University of Virginia's College at Wise on Saturday, December 11 at noon.

"Taking our team to New York City over Christmas break and getting to play in the Barclays Center, watch the Nets play right after us, as well as tour the city for a few days, is such an incredible experience for this group," Thompson added. "We are looking forward to this transition and are excited about the upcoming season as we anxiously await the return of Wasp Nation back into the King Center."

Emory & Henry will travel to the Big Apple on Tuesday, December 14 for its matchup with D'Youville and will visit Malone University on Monday, December 20 on its way home for the holiday break.

A New Year's roadtrip south will see E&H visit Brewton-Parker College on Saturday, January 1 before the exhibition at Coastal on January 2. The Wasps conclude the swing at Voorhees College on Wednesday, January 5.

Emory & Henry welcomes Appalachian Bible College on Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00 p.m. for the official start of the spring semester. A weekend trip to the Tidewater sees the Wasps visit The Apprentice School (Sat., Jan. 15) and Regent University (Mon,. Jan. 17).

After a week off, E&H will travel to Wise for a second contest against the Cavaliers and visit Johnson & Wales (N.C.) University on Friday, January 28.

A pair of home games against Virginia University of Lynchburg (Tue., Feb. 1 – 8:00 p.m.) and Salem (W.Va.) University (Thu., Feb. 3 – 6:00 p.m.) are next before the Wasps go on the road for their final three away games of the year.

E&H visits Bluefield State College, Bluefield College and Salem (W.Va.) on February 5, 10 and 15, respectively before closing out the season with three home games.

Bluefield State comes to town on Saturday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m. to start the stretch before a contest from Carolina University on Tuesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. The Wasps close out the year with another visit from Virginia Univ. of Lynchburg on Senior Day on Saturday, February 26.
