WINCHESTER, Va. – Sunday afternoon, for the first time since April of 2008, Emory & Henry College competed in the sport of men's golf. The Wasps opened their Renaissance season at the Shenandoah Invitational, a two-day, 36-hole event at Winchester Country Club. Round One saw the Wasps tied for sixth place out of 15 competing teams.

Emory & Henry
- E&H is tied with Lynchburg College, Virginia Wesleyan College and the University of Mary Washington at +31 (315) after 18 holes.
- The Wasps are two strokes out of fourth place as host Shenandoah and Shepherd University are tied for fourth at 313 (+29).
- Freshman Carlos Andrade (Samborondón, ECUADOR) is fifth overall after shooting a +1 (72) in the opening day. He posted the second-best score on the front nine, shooting a 35.
- Freshman Luke Montalbano (Rumford, R.I.) shot a 78 (+7) and is tied for 25th going into Monday's second round.
- Freshmen Richard Fishwick (Roanoke, Va.), Tanner Carter (Saltville, Va.) and Ben Owen (Rogersville, Tenn.) shot 81, 84 and 85, respectively.
The Leaders
- Alex Simmons of Hampden-Sydney College leads the tournament after 18 holes with a score of -1 (70).
- Tigers Aaron Persily and Bruce Shober are tied for second after shooting an even par 71.
- Hampden-Sydney is in first place after shooting a +2 (286) in the opening round. Four players for HSC are in the top eight after Sunday.
- Stevenson University is 15 shots back (301) in second place.
