Emory & Henry Men’s Golf Finishes Third At The Northeast Tennessee Collegiate Tuesday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Golf Team finished third out of nine teams at Milligan University's Northeast Tennessee Collegiate on Tuesday. The single-day, 36-hole tournament was played at Johnson City Country Club. The Wasps saw three of their five golfers finish in the top 10 of the 44-player field.

Round One
Freshman Brice Reichard (Amherst, Va.) shot a +3 (75) to sit tied for sixth while junior Jhon Ojeda (Cali, COLOMBIA) tied for 11th at +5 (77).

Junior Trent Gehringer (Fleetwood, Pa.) carded a +7 (79) which was good to tie for 14th while senior Avery Alexander (Christiansburg, Va.) tied for 22nd after 18 holes with a score of 80 (+8).

Junior Peerapol Huangching (Rayong, THAILAND) was tied for 30th at +11 (84) to round out the team.

Round Two
Ojeda jumped eight spots as he fired a -1 (71) to move into a three-way tie for third place at +4 (77-71 – 148) while Reichard slipped one position with a second round of 77 (+5), finishing at +8 (152).

Alexander turned in a +2 (74) to jump 14 places into a seven-way pileup for ninth to complete the event at +10 (154). Gehringer shot an 82 (+10), falling eight spots into a tie for 22nd with Huangching, who moved up eight places after carding a 78 (+6). The duo concluded the tournament with a score of +17 (161).

The Winners
Milligan earned the team title shooting a +22 (302-296 – 598) besting Walters State Community College by 10 strokes (309-299 – 608). E&H was third another three shots back from WSCC at +35.

Francisco DeBethencourt from Milligan won the tournament by seven shots at -6 (68-70 – 138) while Walters State's Nick Talley was second at +1 (75-70).

Up Next
Emory & Henry will host its annual Blue & Gold Intrasquad with both the men's and women's teams in competition at Glenrochie Country Club on Sunday.

The Wasps will play in the South Atlantic Conference Championship beginning Sunday, April 14 through Tuesday, April 16. The 54-hole event will be hosted by Catawba College at Salisbury Country Club.
