Emory & Henry Defeats LaGrange, 1-0, Sunday In Weather Delayed Match

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (2-0) picked up a victory in its home opener Sunday afternoon, defeating LaGrange College (0-2), 1-0, at Fred Selfe Stadium. The Wasps were able to salvage a win in the E&H Classic after Saturday night's match against Huntingdon College was abandoned in the 27th minute due to severe weather.

The Wasps took a 1-0 lead at the 16:59 mark of the first half as senior forward P.J. Henson (Charlotte, N.C.) scored on a breakaway, dribbling in from 40 yards out and finishing past the keeper.

Henson's goal, his first of the season, tied him for the career lead in goals scored at Emory & Henry with 24.

As the whistle for halftime sounded, severe weather caused the match to be suspended. After 30 minutes, the contest resumed, only to be suspended again 2:49 into the second half.

After another delay, the Wasps and Panthers saw the contest to its end, a 1-0 victory for E&H.

Emory & Henry junior goalkeeper Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) picked up his second victory of the season while LaGrange's Donnie Palmer suffered the loss, despite making five saves.

The Wasps outshot the Panthers 18-4 in the contest and held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Emory & Henry returns to the pitch on Wednesday evening when it takes on Averett University at Fred Selfe Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
