Averett Men’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 2-1, Wednesday At Fred Selfe Stadium

EMORY, Va. – The Averett University Men's Soccer Team (2-0-1) picked up a 2-1 win over Emory & Henry College (2-1-0) in non-conference action at Fred Selfe Stadium Wednesday night. Wasp senior forward P.J. Henson (Charlotte, N.C.) scored his second goal of the season to break the E&H record for goals scored in a career. Henson now has scored 25 times in a blue and gold jersey.

Averett took the lead just 8:35 into the contest when Timi Heikkonen (Helsinki, FINLAND) placed a ball on the inside post from a sharp angle 10 yards out.

The Wasps equalized on Henson's record-breaking goal in the 36th minute after E&H was awarded a penalty kick. Henson drilled the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to tie the match and cement himself in the Emory & Henry record book.

The contest remained tied until the 73:59 mark as Averett's Frantz Joinvil (Paris, FRANCE) dribbled into the box and ripped a shot across the face of the goal into the bottom left hand corner to put the Cougars up 2-1.

Averett's Nate Barket (Cave Creek, Ariz.) picked up the win in goal, making three saves while E&H junior Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) fell to 2-1 on the year.

The Cougars held a slim lead in shots (13-12) but the Wasps owned the margin in shots on goal (4-3).

Emory & Henry will return to the pitch at Fred Selfe Stadium on Sunday when it takes on Piedmont College beginning at 2:00 p.m.
