Emory & Henry Men’s Soccer Opens ODAC Play With 3-1 Victory Over Guilford Wednesday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (3-2, 1-0 ODAC) stopped a two-match skid Wednesday evening as it picked up a 3-1 victory over Guilford College (2-2-1, 0-1 ODAC) at Fred Selfe Stadium.

The Wasps struck first, as junior midfielder Jon Bruno (Mooresville, N.C.) received a pass from sophomore midfielder Seb Marley (Worcester, ENGLAND) and placed it in the back of the net just 10:45 into the contest.

E&H would make their lead 2-0 late in the 25thh minute. Senior forward Jon Kirschmeier (Basking Ridge, N.J.) played a ball to Marley who ripped it past the goalkeeper for the score.

Guilford would get on the board late in the first half as Matthew Poling scored on a Josh Berry pass from the right side that he finished at the near post. The 2-1 margin would go into the intermimssion.

Emory & Henry turned up the intensity in the early part of the second half and found several chances to score. Just before the hour mark, sophomore forward Luis Peralta (Robbins, N.C.) centered a ball from the left side that found itself ripe for the picking. Junior midfielder Will Bodfish (Morganton, N.C.) benefitted from Peralta's patience and got his first goal of the season.

The Wasps held a slim advantage on shots (12-10) and corner kicks (4-2) in the contest.

Junior goalkeeper Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) picked up the win for E&H, making five saves on the night while Guilford's Peter Truitt suffered the loss with three goals allowed.

Emory & Henry will return to the pitch on Saturday when the Wasps travel to Harrisonburg, Va., to take on the Royals of Eastern Mennonite College. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
