Hampden-Sydney Men’s Soccer Rallies To Defeat Emory & Henry, 2-1, Saturday Afternoon

HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College Men's Soccer Team (6-4, 2-2 ODAC) took advantage of two late goals as the Tigers came from behind to defeat Emory & Henry College (4-7, 1-4 ODAC), 2-1, Saturday afternoon.

Emory & Henry struck first late in the seventh minute as senior forward Jon Kirschmeier (Basking Ridge, N.J.) scored his first goal of the season to put the Wasps up 1-0.

With just over 11 minutes to go in the match, Hampden-Sydney's Brian Wharton headed in a cross from Chris Whiteside to equalize the contest at one.

Overtime seemed imminent before the Tigers were given a penalty kick. With six seconds left in the contest, Wharton converted the penalty for his second goal of the match, and giving Hampden-Sydney the victory.

Emory & Henry will return home on Saturday, October 8 to take on Bridgewater College at 7:30 p.m.
