Emory & Henry Men's Soccer Defeats Southern Virginia, 1-0, In The Rain Saturday

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (2-2) evened its season record with a 1-0 victory over Southern Virginia University (1-2) on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium.

The two squads battled back and forth through a scoreless first half. Emory & Henry had its share of chances in before the intermission, but couldn't find the back of the net.

Mid-way through the 65th minute, the Wasps took the lead. Freshman Seth Phillips (Ooltewah, Tenn.) was able to settle a loose ball in the box and put it past the keeper for his first career goal.

Both Southern Virginia and Emory & Henry has more chances late, but the defenses and goalkeepers held as the final score would remain 1-0.

E&H sophomore Seth Drummond (Tampa, Fla.) and SVU's Robert Key each had three saves on the day.

The Wasps out-shot the Knights by a 15-7 margin and held a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Emory & Henry will remain at home on Sunday afternoon when it will host the Scots of Maryville (Tenn.) College. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
