Maryville Men's Soccer Gets By Emory & Henry, 1-0, Sunday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. - The Maryville (Tenn.) College Men's Soccer Team (1-1-1) picked up its first win of the season with a 1-0 decision over Emory & Henry College (2-3) Sunday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium.

Early in the 21st minute, the Scots earned a corner kick and Conner McCarty swung the ball in. The service found the head of David Lethco, who directed the ball into the net for the goal.

E&H and Maryville would each have several chances through the rest of the first half and throughout the second period, but neither would be able to score.

Emory & Henry freshman forward Devon Brodkin (Blacksburg, Va.) had three shots including two on goal to lead the team while the Scots were paced by Patrick Braxton's five attempts.

Maryville goalkeeper Ben Munger picked up the shutout, stopping three shots, while Wasp senior netminder Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) registered nine saves despite the loss.

As a team, Maryville held a 20-10 advantage on shots and a 7-3 margin on corner kicks.

E&H will travel to Demorest, Ga., on Wednesday evening to take on Piedmont College. Kickoff for the contest between the Wasps and Lions is set for 6:00 p.m.
