EMORY, Va. – The University of the South Men's Soccer Team (2-3) scored two goals early and held on to defeat Emory & Henry College (2-5) by a 2-1 score Friday evening at Fred Selfe Stadium.
Sewanee struck early in the 35th minute to make the score 1-0. Samuel Edoung-Biyo made contact with the ball just before it was controlled by the Emory & Henry goalkeeper and popped it up an into the net.
The Tigers made it 2-0 just two minutes later (36:14) as Ford Emerson dribbled through the box and finished on the left side of the goal. The two-goal margin would remain through the half.
After the intermission, Emory & Henry was able to get on the board. With 38:08 on the clock, sophomore defender Cody Gregory (Charlotte, N.C.) took a pass from freshman midfielder Seth Phillips (Ooltewah, Tenn.) and hammered it home from 25 yards out.
The Wasps would have several more chances as the time ran down, but could not find the back of the net.
Sewanee goalkeeper Jacob Zalewski picked up the win, making two saves while Emory & Henry freshman Tim Coulter (Mooresville, N.C.) stopped four shots, despite the loss.
Emory & Henry will travel to Lynchburg, Va. tomorrow evening to take on the Hornets of Lynchburg College. Kickoff between the two squads is set for 7:00 p.m.
