Bridgewater Men’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-0, Wednesday In ODAC Play

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College Men's Soccer Team (7-2, 3-0 ODAC) picked up a 3-0 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action Wednesday afternoon over Emory & Henry College (2-8-1, 0-2-1 ODAC).

The Wasps dominated possession early in the contest and had opportunities to get on the board by the Eagles' defense held solid.

In the 24th minute, Bridgewater's Sawyer Janes centered a pass for Gerard Miniaci that he put in the back of the net to make the score 1-0.

The Eagles extended their lead at the 38:00 mark as Janes set up a give-and-go with Patrick Thornton for a 2-0 lead that would remain through the end of the first half.

Bridgewater got an insurance goal early in the second stanza as Kevin Gorman converted a penalty kick.

Emory & Henry was able to hold for the rest of the match and put several shots on frame but the Eagles would keep the Wasps off the scoreboard. Senior midfielder Will Bodfish (Morganton, N.C.) and sophomore forward Konner Dozark (Tampa, Fla.) were the shot leaders for E&H.

Bridgewater goalkeeper T.J. Martin picked up the shutout while Wasp senior Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) made seven saves despite the loss.

Emory & Henry will return home on Friday to face Virginia Wesleyan College in an ODAC match. The contest will be a doubleheader with the women's team and will kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
