WINCHESTER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (2-11-3, 0-5-3 ODAC) battled with Shenandoah University (2-11-2, 0-7-1 ODAC) for 110 minutes, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. It was the first meeting between the Wasps and Hornets since September 15, 2002, when E&H came away with a 3-2 win.
Emory & Henry and Shenandoah each has 17 shots in the contest and put nearly an equal amount on goal, but both goalkeepers were on their game and stopped everything that was put in their path.
In the first half, it appeared as if the Hornets had a slight advantage, but the two squads would go into the intermission tied, 0-0.
The second period was more of the same as each team had nine shots with six of the Wasps' being on target, however the defenses continued to hold and the 90 minutes of regulation passed without a score.
The Wasps had three scoring opportunities in the two extra periods but Shenandoah's James Dutcher remained solid in goal, collected 11 saves in the contest in addition to the shutout.
Emory & Henry senior net-minder Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) made nine saves for his second shutout of the season.
Sophomore midfielder James Ballamy (Worthing, West Sussex, ENGLAND) had five shots on goal for the Wasps while sophomore forward Konner Dozark (Tampa, Fla.) had three scoring chances of his own.
E&H will return to Fred Selfe Stadium on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m., to face Eastern Mennonite University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
