Emory & Henry Men’s Soccer Defeats Huntingdon, 1-0, For First Win Of The Season

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (1-3) got its first win of the season Sunday afternoon as it defeated Huntingdon College (1-2-1) by a 1-0 score on the campus of Maryville (Tenn.) College. The victory was also the first for Head Coach Robert Richardson who took over at the helm of the Wasps' XI during the summer.

The two squads battled through over 80 minutes of scoreless play before E&H got on the board. Sophomore Pierce Moreland (Bristol, Tenn.) took a pass from junior midfielder Kenny Sterne (Lynchburg, Va.) and hit it past the goalkeeper for his first collegiate score.

Huntingdon had a chance in the closing seconds of the match to equalize but was unable to put the shot on frame. The Hawks outshot the Wasps by a 13-8 margin including 8-3 in the second half, and held an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks.  Emory & Henry's defense held strong throughout as Huntingdon was called offside 10 times in the match.

Freshman Joe Kedanis (Carmel, Ind.) made six saves for Emory & Henry as he picked up the shutout win while the Hawks' Sebastian Garcia stopped four shots despite the loss. The Wasps now lead the all-time series with the Hawks, 3-1-3.

Emory & Henry will next take the field when it visits Ferrum College on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
