Lynchburg Men's Soccer Blanks Emory & Henry, 4-0, On Senior Night

EMORY, Va.- The Lynchburg College Men's Soccer Team (9-5-2, 7-2-1 ODAC) picked up a 4-0 win over Emory & Henry College (2-16, 1-9 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action Saturday evening at Fred Selfe Stadium.

The match also served as Senior Night for the Wasps as Zach James (Stephens City, Va.) and Luis Peralta (Robbins, N.C.) were honored by their teammates prior to the contest.

E&H and LC battled back and forth for the first 40 minutes of play with the Wasps turning away multiple Hornet attacks. At the 39:57 mark, Ben Grossfuss crossed in a ball that Brandon Webster shot over the goalkeeper's head for the 1-0 halftime score.

Lynchburg came out of the break with a purpose and tallied three goals in the first 6:51 of the second half. Tim Clancy took a cross from Luke Moore that he slotted to the back post for the first goal of the trio. Moore made it 3-0 just 1:03 later as he cleaned up the rebound of a shot from outside the 18-yard box.

Clancy and Moore hooked up one more time at the 51:51 mark on a play that was nearly identical to the 48th-minute goal.

Emory & Henry only had five shots in the match but three of those were solid opportunities on goal that kept the Lynchburg goalkeepers on their toes. The Hornets held a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks but were called offside on 10 different occasions.

E&H freshman goalkeeper Didier Grillett (Matthews, N.C.) made seven saves while Jonathan Sheffield picked up the win for Lynchburg.

Emory & Henry will have its final match of the season on Tuesday when it hosts Bridgewater College in ODAC action. Kickoff between the Wasps and Eagles is set for 5:00 p.m.
