BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University Men's Soccer Team (3-8) picked up a 4-1 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (3-4-1) Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup.

The Knights got on the board in the third minute when Carter Woods settled a free kick from Josh Smith and put it in from the left corner of the box. The match would remain with a 1-0 score for over 70 minutes.

With 13:12 to play, Smith doubled the margin for SVU. Carlos Munoz played a ball ahead to Smith, who beat the goalkeeper for a shot into an open net.

Emory & Henry closed the margin to 2-1 early in the 81stt minute. Senior midfielder Kenny Sterne (Lynchburg, Va.) saw sophomore forward Zach Quest (Charlotte, N.C.) in an attacking position and played the ball ahead. Quest converted for his team-leading fourth score of the season.

Southern Virginia responded less than 30 seconds later after earning a penalty kick. Smith went to the spot and scored for his second goal of the night. The Knights added one more goal at the 85:07 mark. Erik Gutierrez had a shot turned away by the E&H keeper but Colby Briggs was in position to clean it up, making the final margin 4-1.
