Hampden-Sydney Men’s Soccer Gets By Emory & Henry, 2-0, Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College Men's Soccer Team (6-4-1, 3-2-1 ODAC) scored two goals late in the second half en route to a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Emory & Henry College (3-5-1, 1-3 ODAC) at Fred Selfe Stadium Saturday evening.

The two squads battled to a scoreless first half with the Tigers holding an 8-0 shot advantage. E&H did well dispossessing the H-SC attackers early and forcing ill-advised shots.

In the second half, Emory & Henry continued to make things difficult for Hampden-Sydney and it seemed as if the match would conclude as a scoreless draw.

HSC got on the board in the 67th minute however. Ryan Turner took a pass on the right side of the pitch from Josiah Fleming and shot it across the face of the goal to beat the keeper for a 1-0 lead.

Twelve minutes later, the Tigers doubled the margin on another strike by Turner, who launched the ball from outside the 18-yard box, making the score 2-0.

Emory & Henry had a pair of solid chances late in the contest but was unable to find the back of the net.

Hampden-Sydney's Cameron McFarlane earned the shutout win, making one save while E&H sophomore Didier Grillet (Matthews, N.C.) stopped eight shots despite the loss.

HSC held a 17-3 advantage on shots and took six corner kicks in the match. The Wasps' defense forced the Tigers to be called offside on four occasions however.

Emory & Henry will take to the road on Wednesday evening when it travels to face Roanoke College in ODAC action at 7:00 p.m.
