Roanoke Men’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 5-1, Wednesday Evening

SALEM, Va. – The Roanoke College Men's Soccer Team (8-2-2, 5-0-1 ODAC) scored three goals in the opening 17 minutes of the match as it went on to defeat Emory & Henry College (3-6-1, 1-4 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening.

The Maroons got on the board midway through the ninth minute of play when Tyler Carbaugh found the head of Adam Yesbeck with a corner kick for the score. Roanoke made it 2-0 just 40 seconds later on a strike by Fortune Sibanda.

RC pushed the advantage to three at the 16:12 mark on a goal by Robby Lentine with Marc Dinkel earning the assist.

Just prior to the halftime break, Sibanda found himself on the assisting end of a play, linking up with Dinkel in the 43rd minute for the 4-0 margin at intermission.

Roanoke put one more score past the Emory & Henry defense in the second half as Cameron Picone notched an unassisted tally with 33:35 to go in the game.

Emory & Henry would battle and spoil the shutout for the final 5-1 margin. Junior Jimmy Wilmouth (Forest, Va.) came forward from his spot in the Wasps' defense and put a ball in the right side of the net, earning his first career goal.

RC held a 27-4 advantage in shots and took a total of eight corner kicks in the match. Cole Sinclair played the opening half in goal for the Maroons earning the win while Emory & Henry freshman Daniel Scharisch (Newport News, Va.) made 10 saves despite suffering the loss.

Emory & Henry will take to the road on Saturday when it travels to Randolph-Macon College for a 2:00 p.m., ODAC matchup with the Yellow Jackets. The contest with be part of a doubleheader with the E&H and R-MC women's teams.
