Eastern Mennonite Men’s Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 3-0, Wednesday In ODAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Eastern Mennonite University Men's Soccer Team (6-7-2, 3-4 ODAC) earned a 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Emory & Henry College (3-8-1, 1-6 ODAC) Wednesday evening at Fred Selfe Stadium on the E&H campus.

The contest was scoreless for nearly the entire first half before EMU struck at the 43:59 mark. Jake Lind took a pass from Mark Mast at the top of the box and placed it low and to the goalkeeper's right side for the 1-0 halftime lead.

Emory & Henry had a trio of chances on goal in the first half, two of which came from senior midfielder Kenny Sterne (Lynchburg, Va.), but they were turned away by the Royals' goalkeeper.

Lind made it a two-goal night with another score in the 63rd minute. This time, Jonathan Bush crossed a ball in from the right side and found Lind waiting at the back post to slot the shot home.

EMU made the final margin 3-0 with 20:31 to go in the contest. Bush was on the receiving end of a Juan Luna corner kick that he headed home to give the Royals an insurance goal.

The Wasps had an opportunity to spoil the shutout in the final 15 minutes of play, but the final score would remain 3-0.

Eastern Mennonite held a 26-7 advantage on shots and earned a 12 corner kicks in the contest. The Wasps forced the Royals to be called offside on five different occasions during the match as well.

Andrew Yoder and Ryan Zerkel combined to earn the shutout in goal for EMU while E&H sophomore Didier Grillet (Matthews, N.C.) made seven saves in his return from injury despite the loss.

Emory & Henry will be on the road this weekend when it travels to Lynchburg College for a 4:00 p.m., Saturday contest.
