LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg College Men's Soccer Team (10-4, 7-1 ODAC) picked up a 5-0 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (3-9-1, 1-7 ODAC) Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.
A scoreless battled ensued between the two teams for the opening 35 minutes of the contest. Lychburg got on the board at the 37:23 mark when Jon Mackey made a run down the left side and struck a shot past the goalkeeper.
The Hornets made it a 2-0 halftime lead early in the 43rdd minute off of a corner kick. Brandon Webster served the ball into the area and found the head of Josh Hinkle, who touched it into the net.
Emory & Henry held Lynchburg scoreless for the first 25 minutes of the second half but the Hornets got back on the board with 19:09 to go in the match when Earl Rimbey scored an unassisted goal. LC added a fourth score at the 79:35 mark when Bryan Hall found the back of the net.
With 36 seconds remaining, the Hornets earned a corner kick and Christopher Dodd made the final margin 5-0, cleaning up a ball after the service.
Emory & Henry sophomore goalkeeper Didier Grillet (Matthews, N.C.) made eight saves in goal for the Wasps despite the loss. Senior midfielder Kenny Sterne (Lynchburg, Va.) had a pair of shots on goal while freshman midfielder David Jackson (Newport News, Va.) also had a scoring opportunity.
Scott Zaring played just over 73 minutes in goal, earning the win while Corey Budka made two saves in the final 16:32 of the contest, preserving the shutout.
Emory & Henry will remain on the road on Wednesday when it travels to Greensboro, North Carolina for a 7:00 p.m., ODAC matchup with the Quakers of Guilford College. The contest will be part of a doubleheader with the E&H and GC women's teams.
