Randolph-Macon Men’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 4-1, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Randolph-Macon College Men's Soccer Team (5-3, 1-1 ODAC) scored two first-half goals en route to a 4-1 win over Emory & Henry College (2-3-2, 0-1-1 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the 25th minute as Tyler Slayton Took a pass from Jacob McHugh on the right and put it into the middle of the goal. RMC doubled its lead with less than two minutes to go before halftime. Matt Rannie found Logan McHugh at the top of the 18-yard box, who struck it into the net for the 2-0 advantage.

The first 10 minutes of the second half provided all of the scoring and saw Emory & Henry's goal sandwiched by two scores from Randolph-Macon. Four and a half minutes out of the break Diego Tacaraya struck a ball from 35 yards out and beat the goalkeeper on the high side.

E&H got on the board exactly one minute later (50:40) when freshman forward Tyequis Stallins (Chesapeake, Va.) converted a penalty kick for his team-leading fourth goal of the season and a 3-1 score.

RMC got the final goal of the contest early in the 55th minute. Jack Maxey stood over a free kick and connected with Andrew Oakes, who found the upper corner of the goal for the score.

Randolph-Macon held a 21-7 advantage on shots including a 7-3 margin on shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets also had eight corner kicks compared to two for the Wasps.

Brian Breslin picked up the win for RMC, stopping two shots in 90 minutes in goal while E&H junior Didier Grillet (Matthews, N.C.) had three saves despite the loss.

Emory & Henry will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to face Washington and Lee University in an ODAC contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
