Ferrum Men’s Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 4-1, In Non-Conference Action Monday Evening

FERRUM, Va. – The Ferrum College Men's Soccer Team (4-11) earned a 4-1 win over visiting Emory & Henry (4-6-3) Monday evening at Penn-Roediger Field.

The Panthers got on the board just 1:55 into the game as Daniel Batong took a pass from Julian Ofori and slotted it past the goalkeeper.

Emory & Henry equalized the match at a goal apiece midway through the 15th minute. Sophomore forward Chandler Hundman (Abingdon, Va.) tallied an unassisted goal for his second score of the season.

Six minutes later, Ferrum got the go-ahead goal which would prove to be the match-winner as Michael Midyette found the back of the net. The Panthers' 2-1 lead would hold through the end of the first half.

FC made the score 3-1 at the 68:55 mark on a penalty kick goal by Keith Ricks. A final goal by Kyle Simpkins, assisted by Moore Dolue in the 81st minute would make the final 4-1 margin.

The Panthers held a 28-13 advantage on shots and put 14 of their attempts on goal. The two squads tied 5-5 on corner kicks.

Ferrum's Derek Thomas made seven saves as he earned the win. Wasp junior Didier Grillet (Matthews, N.C.) stopped 10 shots for his third match of the year posting 10 or more saves despite the loss.

Emory & Henry will return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday when it hosts Bridgewater College at 6:30 p.m.
