Eastern Mennonite Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Emory & Henry, 4-0, Tuesday Night

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Eastern Mennonite University Men's Soccer Team (5-11-2, 3-5-2 ODAC) scored four second-half goals en route to a 4-0 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (4-9-3, 2-6-2 ODAC) Tuesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half with EMU holding an 11-6 advantage on shots and a 9-2 lead on corner kicks.

Just 4:20 into the second half the Royals got on the board as Jake Lind found Juan Luna with a centering pass which Luna settled and put past the goalkeeper. Lind and Luna linked up again just over four minutes later (53:34) on a give-and-go at the top of the box for Luna's fifth goal of the year.

Late in the 60th minute, Luna shared the wealth and assisted on a goal by Derek Harnish to make the score 3-0.  Eastern Mennonite capped the scoring with 17:47 to play when Erik Peachy cleaned up a loose ball after Dominic Powers' shot was saved but could not be controlled by the goalkeeper.

The Wasps posted 13 shots in the match led by freshman forward Tyequis Stallins (Chesapeake, Va.) with four attempts. Sophomore Daniel Scharisch (Newport News, Va.) made nine saves in goal despite the loss.

Eastern Mennonite finished the contest with 31 shots, including 13 on goal. The Royals had 14 corner kicks compared to just five for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry will have its final regular season match of the year on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m., when it hosts Lynchburg College. The contest will also be Senior Night for the Wasps.
