Emory & Henry’s Jordan Couch Named To VaSID All-State Second Team

Emory & Henry’s Jordan Couch Named To VaSID All-State Second Team

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Emory & Henry College sophomore forward Jordan Couch has been named to the 2015 VaSID All-State College Division Men’s Soccer Team, VaSID officials announced Friday. The Sylva, North Carolina native adds All-Virginia honors to his résumé as he was also selected to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Second Team in November.

It is the first time since the 2006 season that an E&H player has been recognized by VaSID. Defender Elliott Anderson was tabbed to the All-State First Team in that season in addition to All-ODAC First-Team honors.

Couch led the team in all offensive categories including goals (six), assists (four), points (16), shots (39), shots on goal (19) and match-winning goals (two).  The ODAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week for October 12, Couch had a pair of multi-goal matches including two scores in a 3-2 home win against Guilford College on October 7. He also scored two goals and added an assist against the University of Valley Forge (Sept. 11).

Emory & Henry increased its win total for a second year in a row, notching a 4-10-3 overall record with a pair of wins and two draws against ODAC competition. The eight points earned by the Wasps from conference matches is the most since 2001 when E&H won three matches and tied another. It is also the fourth-best conference result in program history while the Wasps' three-match unbeaten streak in league games was the first of its kind since 1996 and only the fourth in school history.

Washington and Lee University saw Ben Bales named Player of the Year and Mike Singleton selected as Coach of the Year. Ricky Perrault of Virginia Wesleyan College was tabbed as the VaSID Rookie of the Year.

The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 12 sports and three single-division teams in addition to Academic All-State teams across all sports.
