Emory & Henry Men’s Soccer Voted 11th In ODAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

FOREST, Va. – With more and more students arriving on college campuses across the country daily, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference has released the preseason poll for men's soccer. Four a third time in four years, the Wasps have been voted to finish 11th during the regular season by the league's 12 coaches.

"One again, with the schedule matrix resulting in teams not playing every other ODAC team during the season, I have no doubt the student-athletes, coaches, fans and the conference officials are interested to see what bearing this has on the end of season standings and NCAA Tournament representation," said Head Coach Robert Richardson, now in his fifth year.

Emory & Henry posted a breakout year in 2016 with a 10-8-1 overall record, it’s first winning season since 1995 and second best in program history. The Wasps managed a pair of wins and a tie in ODAC play to finish 10th in the league standings and saw a pair of players in Jordan Couch (Abingdon, Va.) and Tyequis Stallins (Chesapeake, Va.) named to the All-ODAC Teams.

"We're excited to welcome this freshman class to the Emory & Henry family," added Richardson. "The seniors and our returners are working hard to help them make the adjustment to the college game ahead of the forthcoming season."

Washington and Lee University is picked to win its second title in three years, earning eight of 12 first-place votes. Lynchburg College (three FPV) is second while Roanoke College (one FPV) is third. Virginia Wesleyan University and Randolph-Macon College round out the top five.

Emory & Henry travels to Penn State-Mont Alto to kick off the season on Friday, September 1 at 5:00 p.m.
