Emory & Henry Men’s Soccer Goes 1-1 Over The Weekend

Ryan Boyette tallied his first two collegiate goals on Sunday at Mid-Atlantic Christian.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va./ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (4-2-1) split a pair of matches on its weekend road trip Saturday and Sunday. The Wasps dropped a 2-1 decision to Regent University on Saturday before responding for a 5-0 win against Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened
- Regent opened up a 2-0 halftime lead, scoring one goal from distance and one from the top of the six-yard box.
- Emory & Henry spoiled the shutout with just two minutes remaining as freshman Spencer Scott (Stephens City, Va.) took a pass from freshman midfielder Colton Ratcliffe (Bristol, Va.) and headed it past the keeper from point-blank range.
- Senior goalkeeper Morgan Moser (Sweetwater, Tenn.) made seven saves in the contest.

How It Happened
- E&H scored twice in the opening 45 minutes getting its first goal from freshman midfielder Casey Widdifield (Afton, Va.), who took possession after a poor clearance by the defense and took his shot.
- Freshman midfielder Ryan Boyette (Fredericksburg, Va.) put the Wasps ahead 2-0 after receiving a pass from sophomore forward Jeff Hurlock (Fredericksburg, Va.) for a long shot into the goal.
- Hurlock got on the scoring end for Emory & Henry's first goal of the second half, assisted by sophomore midfielder Ethan Taylor (Powhatan, Va.). Hurlock got involved again, setting up sophomore forward Jonathan Hoyte (Chesapeake, Va.) with a cross for a 4-0 lead.
- Boyette capped the scoring with a free kick goal from the top of the box for the 5-0 final margin.
- Moser and freshman Derek Akers (Hiwasee, Va.) shared the shutout in goal, combining for three saves.
