Late Goal Propels Wasps To 1-0 Victory Over Eagles Wednesday Evening

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – It was a defensive struggle for the majority of the match Wednesday night, but Emory & Henry (3-3-2, 2-1-1 SAC) eventually found the back of the net when it counted as the Wasps earned a road South Atlantic Conference win over Carson-Newman (1-6-2, 1-3 SAC). Freshman midfielder Noah Serwy (Liege, BELGIUM) scored in the 81st minute to give the Wasps the deciding goal in the 1-0 victory. The win extends E&H's unbeaten streak to five games.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry showed positive signs at the beginning of the match as freshman defender Adrian Colon (Maunabo, PUERTO RICO) and freshman forward Samuel Ulrich (Balneario Camboriu, BRAZIL) each had a crack at the Carson-Newman goal while the Wasps prevented the Eagles from taking a shot in the first 10 minutes of play. C-N took control through the middle of the half as they had the next five attempts, but the score remained deadlocked at 0-0. Serwy had one last chance in the closing moments of the stanza, but the Eagles' goalkeeper Elijah Buford was up to the task and the teams headed into the locker room with the scoreboard still showing 0-0.
- The Wasps once more were on the front foot at the start of the second frame, creating the only two chances in the opening 15 minutes, but the Eagles stormed back with three straight shots through the middle of the half. The visitors from Emory finally broke through in the 81st minute when sophomore defender Marcelo Lopes (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) played a perfect through ball to freshman forward Jean-Charles Eyidi (Briollay, FRANCE) who centered the ball to Serwy. Serwy deftly chipped a shot over the outstretched arms of Buford to give the Wasps the 1-0 lead. The Eagles had one more scoring opportunity in the 89th minute, but junior goalkeeper Baptiste Berthozat (Saint-Martin-de-Crau, FRANCE) was there for the comfortable save to seal the victory for Emory & Henry.
