Roanoke Men’s & Women’s Swimming Downs Emory & Henry Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Roanoke College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams defeated Emory & Henry College in a matchup between former Old Dominion Athletic Conference foes. The Maroons' men's team is currently receiving votes in the CSCAA Division III Top 25 Poll.

The Men
- The Wasps continued to make revisions to their record book as another four top times for the program were achieved on the afternoon.
- E&H started the day with a record in the 200-meter medley relay as freshman Hector Rodriguez (Easley, S.C.), freshman Kyle Berry (Ringgold, Ga.), freshman Andrew Boggus (Virginia Beach, Va.) and junior Ryan Spangler (Daleville, Va.) went a 1:59.04 to finish third.
- Freshman Matthew Gocke (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was the runner-up in the 800-meter freestyle with a record time of 9:02.59, besting the previous school mark by nearly 16 seconds.
- Freshman Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) gave Emory & Henry a win as he posted a time of :27.93 in the 50-meter backstroke. He also grabbed a new record in the 100-meter backstroke at 1:02.75 to take second in the event.
- Berry won the 100-meter individual medley in 1:02.15 and got an individual record in the 100-meter butterfly (1:00.47), finishing third.

The Women
- Freshman Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.) took second in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:11.63 and was the runner-up in the 100-meter individual medley (1:14.91). She was also third in the 400-freestyle at 4:54.45.
- Freshman Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.) was second in the 100-meter breaststroke at 1:23.35) and posted a third-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle at 2:27.78. She was also third in the 100-IM (1:18.14).
- Senior Cat Sweigart (Bridgewater, Va.) finished second in the 50-meter breaststroke, stopping the watches in :38.30 and was third in the 100-breaststroke at 1:25.75.
- Freshman Danyelle Dukes (Center Point, Ala.) was third in the 100-free (1:09.74) and the 50-meter butterfly (:37.58) while freshman Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) placed third in the 800-meter freestyle at 10:39.88.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will be on the road next Friday when it visits Catawba College for a tri-meet against Catawba and Lees-McRae College. The first event is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
