Emory & Henry Men’s Swimming Takes Fifth At The Yellow Jacket Invitational As 11 Records Fall

RICHMOND, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Swimming Team broke 11 school records on its way to a fifth-place finish at the TYR Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College over the weekend.

The Records
- In the first event of the weekend, E&H grabbed the record for the 50-yard freestyle during freshman Corey Kidd's (Stockbridge, Ga.) leadoff leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay. Kidd started the race off in :21.74 leading the Wasps to a sixth-place finish.
- Kidd also posted two other records on the weekend, winning the 100-yard freestyle in :46.07 and taking fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (:52.39).
- Freshman Matthew Gocke (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) set four individual records, beginning with a fourth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:52.06. He was also fourth in the 200-free, swimming a 1:48.47. Gocke finished his record-breaking performance by notching two records in the same event, breaking the 1,650-yard freestyle mark with a time of 16:45.43 to finish third and splitting a new E&H mark of 10:09.45 for the first 1,000 yards.
- Freshman Payton Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.) touched the wall fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.75) for a new record and was fifth in the 400-yard individual medley at 4:24.43. Freshman Aiden Quertermous (Awendaw, S.C.) was sixth in the event, also coming in under the previous school best.
- In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Gocke, Quertermous, freshman Kyle Berry (Ringgold, Ga.) and Kidd went a 7:28.70 to crush the previous E&H mark by 18 seconds.
