Emory & Henry Men’s Swimming Seventh After Day One Of Bluegrass Mountain Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams got the postseason started on Thursday with the first 10 events of the 2022 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships. The men's team sits in seventh place after day one while the women are eighth.

The Women
- Event 1 – 200-Yard Medley Relay – E&H finished eighth with a time of 2:00.19 on the efforts of freshmen Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.), Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.), Danyelle Dukes (Center Point, Ala.), and senior Cat Sweigart (Bridgewater, Va.).
- Event 3 – 1,000-Yard Freestyle – Helscher went an 11:24.49 to finish 20th in the timed final event.
- Event 5 – 200-Yard Individual Medley – Ritter placed 32nd in the preliminaries with a time of 2:26.15.
- Event 7 – 50-Yard Freestyle – Sweigart led the Wasps with a 33rd-place finish in the preliminaries as she went a :25.99. Dukes and freshman Alyssa Price (Clintwood, Va.) were 40th and 46th, respectively.
- Event 9 – 200-Yard Freestyle Relay – The Wasps team of Dukes, freshman Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.), freshman Tilly Craddock (Christiansburg, Va.) and Sweigart were seventh as they touched the wall in 1:45.40.

The Men
- Event 2 – 200-Yard Medley Relay – Emory & Henry went a school-record 1:39.15 to finish seventh. Freshmen Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.), Morgan Cassell (Hubert, N.C.), Kyle Berry (Ringgold, Ga.) and junior Ryan Spangler (Daleville, Va.) swam on the relay.
- Event 4 – 1,000-Yard Freestyle – Freshman Matthew Gocke (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was 14th in the timed final swimming a 10:19.05 in the morning session.
- Event 6 – 200-Yard Individual Medley – Cassell paced a quartet of Wasps with a 38th-place finish in the preliminaries and a time of 2:08.38. Senior Logan Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.), freshman Andrew Boggus (Virginia Beach, Va.) and freshman Hector Rodriguez (Easley, S.C.) were 39th, 40th, and 41st respectively.
- Event 8 – 50-Yard Freestyle – Kidd placed 21st in the preliminaries with a record time of :21.32 to qualify for finals. He finished the event in 21st place breaking the school record again with a :21.30. Berry (29th), junior Antonio Walters (Elon, N.C.) (30th), Spangler (32nd), freshman Conor Douthat (Bluefield, Va.) (34th) and senior Blake Madaris (Acworth, Ga.) (37th) also swam in the event.
- Event 10 – 200-Yard Freestyle Relay – The Wasps closed the evening with a seventh-place finish in 1:31.37 with Berry, freshman Payton Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.), freshman Aiden Quertermous (Awendaw, S.C.) and Kidd making up the relay.
