Emory & Henry Men’s Swimming Finishes Sixth At Inaugural SAC Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams got the postseason started on Wednesday with the first 10 events of the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Championships. The women's team sits in fifth place after day one while the men are sixth.

Wednesday's Events
- Event 2 – 200-Yard Medley Relay – Emory & Henry opened the meet with a fifth-place finish as freshmen Caleb Patton (Marion, Va.) and Nate Perez (San Antonio, Texas) along with senior Ryan Spangler (Daleville, Va.) and freshman Christian Smrekar (Rock Hill, S.C.) swam a 1:43.75.
- Event 4 – 1,000-Yard Freestyle – Perez and senior Antonio Walters (Elon, N.C.) finished 18th and 20th with times of 10:46.67 and 11:53.25, respectively.
- Event 8 – 50-Yard Freestyle – Sophomore Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) was 13th at :21.08 while freshman Owen Seymour (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) finished in 17th place (:21.16).
- Event 10 – 200-Yard Freestyle Relay – The Wasps closed the evening with a school record and fourth-place finish in 1:26.49 with Kidd, Smrekar, sophomore Payton Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Seymour on the relay.

Thursday's Events
- Event 12 - 100-Yard Butterfly - Kidd finished 13th overall with a time of :51.73 in the "B Final." Seymour was 18th (:52.47) while Nabors took 20th (:53.19) and Spangler was 24th (:57.47). Senior Antonio Walters (Elon, N.C.) also competed in the preliminaries.
- Event 14 - 400-Yard Individual Medley - Patton posted a new school record with his time of 4:18.09 which was good for 20th with Nabors taking 23rd at 4:26.16 and Smrekar 24th at 4:31.68. Freshman Jordan Krafft (Waxhaw, N.C.) was 26th in the preliminaries as the second alternate.
- Event 18 - 400-Yard Medley Relay - E&H closed out day two as Kidd, Patton, Nabors and Seymour finished sixth with a new program-best of 3:33.28.

Friday's Events
- Event 22 - 100-Yard Backstroke - Seymour and Kidd finished 12th and 13th, respectively with times of :52.51 and :52.60. Smrekar was 17th in the "C Final," touching the wall in :57.35.
- Event 24 - 100-Yard Breaststroke - Patton turned in a time of 1:02.62 as the first of four Wasp swimmers in the "B Final." Spangler was 14th (1:07.43), Perez was 15th (1:07.48) and Krafft was 16th (1:11.67).
- Event 26 - 200-Yard Butterfly - Nabors gave Emory & Henry another new record, finishing 13th at 1:58.27 with Krafft taking 16th in 2:16.27.
- Event 28 - 800-Yard Freestyle Relay - The Wasps finished sixth on the efforts of Patton, Walters, Spangler and Smrekar at 7:47.38.

Saturday's Events
- Event 30 - 1,650-Yard Freestyle - Smrekar placed 14th in 18:04.13 with Spangler and Walters taking 17th and 18th, respectively in 20:12.17 and 20:28.65.
- Event 32 - 100-Yard Freestyle - Kidd placed 15th in :47.24 as Seymour was 20th (:48.02).
- Event 34 - 200-Yard Backstroke - Patton touched the wall in 2:04.44 to finish 16th. Smrekar was 17th (2:08.34), Walters finished 18th (2:13.56) and Krafft came in 19th (2:21.23).
- Event 36 - 200-Yard Breastroke - Patton was 10th at 2:14.16, joined by Perez (13th; 2:30.52) and Spangler (14th; 2:41.61) in the "B Final."
- Event 38 - 400-Yard Freestyle - E&H closed out the meet with a sixth-place finish at 3:12.86 on the efforts of Seymour, Perez, Nabors and Kidd to shatter the school record.
